Show Stopping Lighting

Tie a Room Together with a Statement Fixture

The right lighting can take a space from dark and dingy to bright and beautiful. Many modern fixtures serve a dual purpose and act as unique décor and functional lighting for a variety of spaces in the home.   A well-lit room is filled with a soft and subtle glow that makes for a homey and happy space. Warm lighting encourages family bonding and lots of late night sharing and story swapping.  Here are some tips and tricks to find the right lighting fixture to make every room in your home a bright spot:

A spider chandelier gives a kitchen space a bit of edgy energy. Black and chrome pendants are funky and fresh. Perfect for an updated kitchen design, this industrial lighting fixture offers a chic and playful addition overhead.

A large white dome pendant gives a pop of fresh liveliness to a dining room table. Glossy and icy, this lighting fixture creates more synergy in a room dedicated to white furnishings and pale décor.

A chic industrial glass pendant gives an eating area more flair and fun. Perfect for subtle illumination, this lighting fixture adds welcome pizzazz. A hanging lighting fixture blends perfectly into a trendy space with a retro edge.

A row of glass hanging pendants gives a modern kitchen a refreshing and unexpected design twist. A trio of hanging lights creates just the right amount of glow and adds a bit of soft warmth over a bar seating area.

A bedside reading table gets a modern upgrade by being fastened to the wall. Artsy with a robotic vibe, this little lamp is perfect for a minimalist bedroom.

Benjamin Moore Paint Booth for IDSwest 2015

At this year’s IDSwest interior design show in Vancouver, Shift Interiors was chosen to create the booth for Benjamin Moore Paint. It was only our second year at the event, making the opportunity to work with  such a great brand whose product we already love quite an honour.

Shift Interiors - Benjamin Moore Paint - IDSwest 2015

With the spirit of collaboration an integral part of Shift, we were happy to share the honour with Lindsay from Motto Interior design. Like us, Motto believes in strong relationships and is why this is just one of many projects we’ve completed together.

We were already big fans of Benjamin Moore before they approached us, with their paint our go-to brand for clients. We just love their amazing colour options, innovation and their environmental efforts.

And working with Annaliesse, Lindsay and the Benjamin Moore team was just a lot of fun! We took some shots of our booth from the opening night party, where Tyler from ZenTech Interiors joined us and my sis Kelly from Kelly Deck Design stopped by to say hi.

I’d also like to thank our suppliers that supported this project:

  • Eighteen Karat
  • Mint Interiors
  • Salari Rugs
  • Mobital
  • Brent Colmer
  • Bo Concept
  • Style in Form
  • Crate and Barrel
  • Living Space

The cherry blossoms are blooming

The summer is coming and everything is starting to feel fresh, new and exciting.  The cherry blossoms are blooming, the grass is extra vibrant and sun shines longer each day.  In design, another sign of spring is a busy phone line and lots of new exciting projects.  It’s amped up spring cleaning and I love it!  Over the past few weeks, we have started a few new kitchen designs and I’m feeling very inspired by the fresh mood of spring.  And what’s more fresh than a bright white kitchen?  White kitchens have been a trend forever and I doubt will ever die as a great option for any home.  Whether modern, traditional, small or large, it works and gives space for the home to grow and change it over time.  A home can update the accents and replace the furniture, all around the kitchen. Because as you know, the kitchen is the heart of the home.

Here are few kitchens by us and other design firms that are fresh and ready for the summer dinners ahead.

Weekend in Tofino

By Alex Dampsey

I recently spent the weekend in Tofino and found myself in constant awe of the inescapable beauty of the West Coast.

It was a rainy trip and staying inside was the most inviting option but the surroundings were always present. I was
inspired by the views and totally present to the impact of well thought out windows. Although I chose
to stay dry and warm inside, the large windows allowed me to feel  connected to nature without feeling trapped.

I love how a basic room can be an amazing one, full of character and  warmth, simply from the presence of a beautiful window.

And of course, a beautiful view.
